Interview with Colt Chambers from the International Music & Entertainment Association

Looking back at this year, one of the things I am particularly grateful for is discovering the International Music & Entertainment Association, and the work of its 19-year old CEO and President, Colt Chambers.

When I was nominated for the Jazz Song of the Year and Jazz Artist of the Year, I started looking into the organization that put on this award show. Unlike some other organizations I have been approached by in the past, this one seemed to be very much a non-profit, non-money-motivated group of people (all volunteers, apparently) who really wanted to do something to assist and promote independent artists, and put the needs of their members first.

When I went to the actual awards show, I was thoroughly impressed by the organization and detail of the whole event, from the stunning 1930’s theater that was the location of the ceremony, to the red carpet photos and interviews, nomination certificates, T-shirts, pre-awards gala and hotel arrangements for attendees coming from out of town. I was not the only one who was impressed – attendees showed up from as far away as France and Italy.

I was particularly fascinated by the 19-year old founder of the group, who had put all this in motion. I had a chance to meet him at the awards and interview him later on the phone – I was dying to find out how this all came about and what possessed him to put so much work into a non-profit organization at such a young age.

2014 IMEA Awards

October 5th, 2014

I am excited to be able to share that last night at the International Music & Entertainment Association Awards, my original jazz song Shanghai Blues won “Jazz Song of the Year”.

It was a great evening at a beautiful 1930′s theater, with an awards show and awards to independent artists in many categories.

I was very impressed by the smooth organization of the event by the IMEA non-profit organization (more about that later).

Fan votes comprised 20% of the final results. Thanks again everyone for voting!
